A Visit to Tierschutzhof Karlsruhe e. V.
A Place of Care, Commitment and Hope
As part of our NEKTON donation initiative, we recently had the opportunity to visit Tierschutzhof Karlsruhe e. V., a small private shelter-like organization run entirely through volunteer efforts and donations — without any state funding. The shelter was founded in 2016 and relies on the generosity of supporters to keep its doors open and its mission alive.
A Home for Animals in Need
The shelter primarily cares for older, sick or behaviorally challenged animals from the Karlsruhe area. Animals may be surrendered by owners or placed by authorities. Currently, the shelter houses dogs, cats, poultry, rabbits and even pond fish — each with a story and a journey to recovery.

Working with the dogs, in particular, highlights the patience and expertise required in true animal care. Many have lived through trauma, lack basic training or are wary of humans. The team provides tailored support, medical attention, and behavioral care to give these animals a dignified, species-appropriate life.
A Private Organization With a Big Heart
What stood out most to us is that Tierschutzhof Karlsruhe e. V. operates without government funding. Every aspect of animal care, daily routines, and facility upkeep depends on donations and volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to this mission.
Looking for Loving Homes
Many animals at the shelter are still waiting for a rescue family — whether as a forever home or a temporary foster placement. The shelter welcomes prospective adopters and volunteers, especially for animals that may need a bit more patience and experience.
Thank You to Everyone Who Helps
Our visit to Tierschutzhof Karlsruhe e. V. was inspiring and humbling. It reminded us how essential compassion, dedication, and community support are in giving vulnerable animals a second chance. 💚
