Our FAQ

General Topics

Where can I find the batch number and expiration date?
You can find the batch number and the best-before date in the top right corner of the label.

Do you also produce NEKTON products in liquid form?
We do not produce any products in liquid form. All of our products have a powdery texture.
Why should NEKTON products not be stored in the refrigerator?

We advise against storing NEKTON products in the refrigerator, as the cold and humid conditions can negatively affect the quality of the vitamins and minerals contained. Although the refrigerator is dark and cool, the high humidity there can impact the products.
Ideal storage conditions are: a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight (between 15°C and 25°C). Under these conditions, our products remain stable until the expiration date indicated on the label. However, after opening, they should be used within 3 months to ensure the best quality of vitamins and minerals.

Dogs

Can bones be added to NEKTON-Dog Easy BARF and Natural BARF for calcium supply?
In Natural BARF, meat and offal are essential as they provide important vitamins and trace elements. The product contains only natural ingredients, but not in sufficient quantities to cover the full requirement of vitamins and trace elements. Additionally, bones can be fed as a supplement.
Although the product already contains a source of calcium, it is present in a diluted form. With both NEKTON BARF products, adding bones is generally possible – but always in moderation.
If you have any further questions about our BARF products, we are happy to assist you.
How is NEKTON-KEEP-COOL administered? Should it be mixed with dry food or added to water? Or is a completely different method used?
NEKTON-Keep-Cool should not be mixed with water water for administration, as the product contains natural ingredients that are not water-soluble.

If you are feeding dry food, we recommend lightly moistening the food with warm water and then dusting it with NEKTON-Keep-Cool. This way, the powder adheres optimally to the food and is reliably absorbed.

Moistening the dry food provides additional benefits:

  • Increased fluid intake, especially for dogs that drink little.
  • No swelling in the stomach, which reduces the risk of stomach pain.
  • Softer food, which is easier for dogs with dental problems to eat.

Cats

Can NEKTON-CAT-VM and NEKTON-CAT-H be given together?
Both NEKTON-Cat-VM and NEKTON-Cat-H contain all the essential vitamins and minerals for cats. Therefore, it is not recommended to administer both products simultaneously to avoid overdosing.

Birds

What is the difference between NEKTON-Breed-Star and NEKTON-E?

NEKTON-Breed-Star is a combination supplement that merges the benefits of NEKTON-S (a multivitamin) and NEKTON-E (Vitamin E for breeding preparation). It is designed as an all-in-one solution for supporting birds during breeding and rearing.
In contrast, NEKTON-E contains only Vitamin E, focusing specifically on stimulating the reproductive system and preparing birds for mating.

More information:

NEKTON-Lori shows brown spots after mixing – is that normal?
Yes, that is completely normal. Due to the special formula, brown discoloration may occur after mixing. These are caused by natural reactions between the ingredients and are completely harmless to your feathered friend.

Can I sprinkle NEKTON-Relax on dry food?
We recommend lightly moistening the dry food with a spray bottle of water and then sprinkling NEKTON-Relax on the dampened food. Please make sure to offer the birds only as much food as they will actually consume, and change the food daily to avoid potential bacterial growth caused by the water.
Why does it say on the products that, due to the increased content of Vitamin D and trace elements, no more than 5% of the daily ration should be given?

The following information is based on legal requirements that we are obligated to communicate.

Example calculation for NEKTON-S:
To exceed the 5% threshold, more than 12.5 g of NEKTON-S would need to be added to 250 ml of water or more than 5 g of NEKTON-S to 100 g of soft food. However, in typical use, the dosage is well below this value.
Therefore, you can feed NEKTON with confidence – exceeding the maximum amount is not possible when used properly.

Please always follow our feeding recommendation.
In general, only offer your animals as much food or water as they consume during the day – and always ensure that food and water are fresh daily.

Can NEKTON-Baby-Bird and NEKTON-Biotic-Bird be given together?

NEKTON-Biotic-Bird and NEKTON-Baby-Bird should not be given together, as NEKTON-Biotic-Bird is only administered from the third month of life.

Is it possible to give NEKTON-S to the parents while they are feeding their young chicks?

NEKTON-S can also be given to the parent birds during the feeding of their chicks. However, we recommend administering NEKTON-S through the drinking water, as it is absorbed particularly quickly through the digestive system and thus works efficiently in the body.

Does NEKTON-Fly dissolve in water like NEKTON-S?

NEKTON-Fly is water-soluble and can be easily administered through the drinking water.

What is the difference between NEKTON-S and NEKTON-Fly?

NEKTON-Fly was specifically developed for the needs of active birds. It supports the building of strength and energy reserves for optimal flight and laying performance. The product has been proven to promote growth, performance, fertility, and egg-laying activity, and it also has a positive effect on metabolism.
NEKTON-Fly has proven particularly effective during and after medical treatment, such as when antibiotics or sulfonamides are administered. In such phases, an increased intake of vitamins is essential to stabilize the gut flora and support the body's natural regeneration.

NEKTON-S is a universal supplement for all bird species. It supports overall bird health by providing a balanced supply of vitamins, amino acids, minerals, and trace elements. This helps to effectively prevent health damage caused by deficiencies. High-quality ingredients not only improve the absorption but also the utilization of nutrients from the food, thereby enhancing the overall nutritional status of the bird.

Should I dissolve 8g of Calcium-Plus in 250ml of water or 1g in 250ml?

We recommend dissolving 8g of NEKTON-Calcium-Plus in 250ml of water before and during the breeding season (daily during the breeding season), as birds have an increased calcium requirement during the strenuous breeding period. The organic calcium and magnesium in the product are very well and quickly absorbed, making them particularly suitable for supporting breeding and addressing calcium deficiencies.

What is the difference between NEKTON PRE VITAL+ and NEKTON-Biotic-Bird?

NEKTON-PRE-VITAL+ is a dietary supplement that primarily provides the bird’s organism with valuable nutrients and active substances. The addition of yeast cell walls helps promote a balanced gut flora and reduce the number of harmful bacteria, which can ultimately lead to increased vitality and performance.

NEKTON-Biotic-Bird is a probiotic whose main action is the formation of a healthy gut flora and the support of enzymatic digestion of food in the crop and intestines. It is mainly used for digestive disorders, during recovery after antibiotic treatments, and in cases of stress or heavy strain.

I have 2 green-cheeked conures that are 5 months old. I would like to buy NEKTON E and S for them. How many days per month should I use NEKTON E and S for them?

NEKTON-S is an alkaline vitamin supplement for year-round use. It should be administered daily, or at least twice a week. NEKTON-S contains all essential vitamins and is additionally enriched with amino acids, minerals, and trace elements.
For optimal supplementation, we recommend alternating its use with NEKTON-MSA, which specifically supports metabolism and bone structure, regulates calcium balance, and prevents deficiencies.

NEKTON-E was specifically developed to promote fertility. It improves fertilization rates, increases the survival probability of embryos, and strengthens the vitality of the hatched chicks.
We recommend administering NEKTON-E daily about three weeks before the start of breeding and continuing it throughout the breeding period. However, once the first egg is laid, the administration should be discontinued, as a persistently high vitamin E level in the male may lead to excessive mating behavior, which could disturb the breeding process.

Can we use NEKTON-Booster for young birds? 1 day old, 3 days old, 1 week old, 2 weeks old, or older than 1 month?

It is not recommended to give our NEKTON-Booster to young birds. Administration of NEKTON-Booster should not begin until the bird has lost its down feathers ("baby feathers") and its first plumage has fully developed. The digestive system of young chicks is not fully developed during the first few weeks, and the active ingredients in NEKTON-Booster are not fully digested and absorbed by the body.

Can we add NEKTON-R to the baby hand-feeding formula (for 2-month-old macaw chicks) to enhance the red color?

It is not recommended to give our NEKTON-R to young birds. Administration of NEKTON-R should only begin once the bird has lost its down feathers ("baby feathers") and its first plumage is fully developed. Only then can the color properly accumulate in the feathers.

Can young chicks be given NEKTON-Biotin during the feathering period?

NEKTON-Biotin should not be given to young chicks. It is recommended to start its use once the chicks have lost their down feathers and their first plumage begins to grow.

How long can I give NEKTON-Relax to my bird?

NEKTON-Relax is made up of a combination of natural and synthetic ingredients and is not a medication. It affects the body's metabolism, leading to relaxation and balance. For example, the amino acid L-Tryptophan is the building block for the release of the "happy hormone" serotonin, which directly influences mood. Over time (about 2 weeks), the serotonin concentration increases, and the animals become calmer and more composed.

If needed (in stressful situations, exhibitions, and shows), offer NEKTON-Relax to your bird as a course for a period of 4 to 12 weeks. NEKTON-Relax reaches its full effect after about 2 weeks. For upcoming exhibitions or shows, it is recommended to start administering it 2-3 weeks in advance.

It is advisable not to administer NEKTON-Relax with water, as the product contains natural components that are not water-soluble.
NEKTON-Relax can be easily combined with other NEKTON products.

Can we offer NEKTON-S + NEKTON-E together in 250 ml or 500 ml of water to our animals?

We recommend administering 1 g of NEKTON-S and 1 g of NEKTON-E together in 250 ml of drinking water. Once the NEKTON products are mixed with the water, the solution must be consumed within 24 hours, as the vitamins degrade over time. The drinking vessel must be thoroughly cleaned to ensure a 100% supply of nutrients.

What is the recommended time between the first administration of NEKTON-Booster and the competition, and for which birds is NEKTON-Booster suitable?

We recommend administering NEKTON-Booster about 5 days before the competition to help the animal achieve its peak performance.
NEKTON-Booster is suitable for all bird species.
Please follow the feeding recommendation and correct dosage to ensure optimal results.

Weighing small birds (like canaries) is very difficult. What is the best way to properly dose NEKTON products?

It is recommended to administer 1 g of our NEKTON products (e.g., NEKTON-MSA) for 40 birds (or 0.5 g for 20 birds).
Our products can be offered in a separate dish, as the birds typically only consume as much as they actually need.

Does NEKTON-E also have a positive effect on the immune system?

Yes, NEKTON-E has a positive effect on the body's immune system. For general well-being and immune support, we recommend NEKTON-S as a base supplement. It also contains Vitamin E, but at a lower dosage compared to NEKTON-E. Typically, the amount of Vitamin E in NEKTON-S is sufficient.
NEKTON-E was specifically developed for breeding, but it can be mixed with the daily drinking water or soft food. We recommend not exceeding half of the usual dose (0.5 g NEKTON-E in 250 ml of drinking water or 100 g soft food) to avoid an overly strong mating instinct.

Can NEKTON-Gelb/-R/-R-Beta be used outside of the molting period?

We recommend using NEKTON-Gelb/-R/-R-Beta during the molting period, as the color pigments are directly absorbed by the newly formed feathers.
Using NEKTON-Gelb/-R/-R-Beta outside of the molting period is still possible; however, the same level of color intensification may not be achieved, as the product is specifically designed for the molting phase.

In what amount of drinking water/soft food should NEKTON-B-Komplex be mixed?

Our feeding recommendation is as follows:

  • Half a scoop (0.5 g) for small birds
  • One level scoop (1 g) for medium-sized birds
  • One to two scoops (1-2 g) for large bird species

NEKTON-B-Komplex per daily ration of water or soft food.

If you feel that you have given too much NEKTON-B-Komplex, there is no need to worry about overdosing.
If the bird receives too much NEKTON-B-Komplex, it will excrete the excess vitamins that are not needed.

What is the difference between NEKTON-MSA and NEKTON-Calcium-Plus, and when should I use each product?

NEKTON-MSA is a highly effective mineral supplement that supports metabolism, prevents rickets, and strengthens the skeletal system. NEKTON-MSA is suitable for year-round use (except during breeding).
In contrast, NEKTON-Calcium-Plus should only be used during the breeding season, until the chicks have hatched, and in case of deficiencies. Since a bird requires a lot of calcium during egg formation, NEKTON-Calcium-Plus is ideal for preventing calcium deficiency during this time and for replenishing calcium levels.
The calcium lactate contained in NEKTON-Calcium-Plus is quickly absorbed by the bird's system. Existing deficiencies can be treated rapidly this way.

Can the different B vitamins in NEKTON-S affect the feather colors of my birds? (e.g., in Red Mosaic Canaries)

Among the B vitamins, only riboflavin (Vitamin B2) and folic acid have a yellow, yellowish, or slightly orange color. However, these chemical yellow components are completely metabolized after ingestion and are no longer yellow once they are acted upon by stomach acid and certainly by the time they reach the small intestine. Only then do they enter the bloodstream.

Even if the natural yellow color were preserved, it is biochemically impossible for B vitamins to be deposited into the feathers. Only melanin, carotenoids, and porphyrins can be stored in the feathers.

Reptiles

What is the difference between NEKTON-REP and NEKTON-MULTI-REP?

NEKTON-Rep is a basic multivitamin supplement for shedding reptiles (such as frogs and snakes). It has a high content of Vitamin A, which increases the rate of skin formation, promotes the functionality of mucous membranes, and supports overall energy metabolism. The difference between NEKTON-Rep and NEKTON-Multi-Rep mainly lies in the Vitamin A content: NEKTON-Rep contains a high Vitamin A level of 6,600,000 IU.

NEKTON-Multi-Rep is a basic vitamin supplement for armored, non-shedding reptiles and amphibians. It covers the animals' basic nutritional needs. NEKTON-Multi-Rep has a very low concentration of Vitamin A (200,000 IU), making it especially suitable for armored, non-shedding reptiles and amphibians. Excess Vitamin A can soften the shell, which is why NEKTON-Multi-Rep is particularly recommended for amphibian turtles and armored reptiles.

How to properly use NEKTON Crested Gecko

Mix 1 part of the powder with 2-3 parts of water (the quantity refers to the volume).
Within about 10 minutes, a smoothie-like consistency will form.
Geckos are greedy eaters, and overfeeding can occur. Feeding does not need to be done daily.
Feeding 2-3 times per week is completely sufficient.
To avoid contamination and mold formation in the prepared food, it is recommended to boil the water before use to ensure quality.

Which supplements are recommended for monitor lizards and snakes?

For monitor lizards, we recommend our mineral supplement NEKTON-Multi-Rep.
NEKTON-Multi-Rep contains 12 vitamins, 9 amino acids, and 7 trace elements, ensuring the basic supply for the animals.
With its low vitamin A concentration, this supplement is particularly suitable for non-shedding reptiles, and its balanced calcium-phosphorus ratio ensures strong bones, promotes stable bone development, and supports healthy growth of the animals.
While using NEKTON-Multi-Rep, no other vitamin supplement should be administered.
Our feeding recommendation: 0.25 g of NEKTON-Multi-Rep per kg of body weight daily, or 1.5 g once a week.
To strengthen the bone structure of monitor lizards, you can additionally give NEKTON-MSA.

For snakes, we recommend our high-quality multivitamin supplement for reptiles and amphibians, NEKTON-Rep.
NEKTON-Rep increases the skin formation rate, promotes the function of the mucous membranes, and boosts the overall energy metabolism of the animal. It also supports growth.
NEKTON-Rep positively influences the development of muscles, glands, and the nervous system.
Additionally, it increases fertility and hatching ability in snakes.
Our feeding recommendation:
NEKTON-Rep is water-soluble and can be easily administered via drinking water or sprinkled over feeder animals.
0.25 g of NEKTON-Rep per kg of body weight daily, or 1.5 g once a week.

I am interested in giving vitamins to my snakes. Are your products suitable for this? If so, which product would be the best?

For snakes, we recommend our high-quality multivitamin supplement NEKTON-Rep.
NEKTON-Rep increases the skin formation rate, promotes the functionality of mucous membranes, boosts the overall energy metabolism of the animal, and stimulates growth. Animals with vitamin/mineral deficiencies are usually not very active; NEKTON-Rep compensates for this nutrient deficiency, making the animals noticeably more energetic.

NEKTON-Rep is primarily a very high-quality vitamin compound that plays a crucial role in the development of snake skin and mucous membranes due to its high content of "epithelial protection vitamin" A (retinol).

Do you have any tips on how to prepare NEKTON Drosophila Breeding Concentrate optimally?

We recommend not using tap water, as it may contain a higher number of germs, which can encourage the breeding concentrate to mold.
Instead, still bottled water should be used.
The mixture requires sufficient moisture: one part of the breeding concentrate to two parts of lukewarm water.
Please also note that only as much paste should be prepared as the flies will consume.
Ensure that enough flies are added to the mixture for breeding.
If the paste is left untouched by the flies for a longer period, it will typically start to mold.
A little bit of mold is normal and not harmful to the animals.
