Our Visit to Enztauben
Responsible Pigeon Care Instead of Neglect
As part of our NEKTON donation initiative, we visited Enztauben on Friday. Since 2021, the association has been operating a pigeon loft in Neuenbürg, demonstrating a sustainable and humane approach to urban pigeon management.
Pigeons Are Feral Domestic Animals
Feeding bans are often used to reduce pigeon populations. However, this approach causes severe stress. Domesticated pigeons breed up to eight times a year, but due to the stress caused by feeding bans in cities, they may breed even more frequently. This actually increases population growth rather than reducing it.
The Enztauben Approach
Enztauben follows a proven alternative:
By providing controlled feeding at a fixed location, pigeons remain in the loft. This allows the association to manage reproduction by replacing laid eggs with dummy eggs. Occasionally, a real egg is left to ensure the pigeons remain in the loft.
In addition, the association provides:
- care for sick or injured birds
- species-appropriate feeding for grain eaters
- humane and effective population control
This approach reduces suffering, stabilizes populations and prevents starvation
Why Support Matters
Pigeon welfare is often overlooked, yet it is a crucial part of responsible animal protection. Associations like Enztauben focus on long-term solutions that benefit both animals and urban environments.
👉 Support makes a difference — through awareness, understanding and active help.
We sincerely thank Enztauben for their important work and are grateful to support them through our donation initiative. 💚
